Fieldtrip
At Strathfield Station

On the 15th of March 2015, we embarked on a journey to the south-western Sydney suburb of Cabramatta. Cabramatta is best known for the prevalence of a strong Southeast Asian culture and more specifically, the Vietnamese culture.

We decided to meet at Strathfield station, given that it was the most geographically central train station for all our group members. We boarded a South Line train to Fairfield, where we switched to a bus which took us to the heart of Cabramatta.

Arriving at Cabramatta, we took a leisurely stroll through its vibrant streets, absorbing the intriguing culture it had to offer. We decided to eat at 'Pho Phung' which was located on John St, the main street of Cabramatta. We ate phở bò, a beef noodle street which uis regarded to be a national dish of Vietnam. We all enjoyed our meal. Jenny's son especially loved it, asking for seconds!

After finishing our meal, we explored the many concealed laneways and arcades in Cabramatta. We were exposed to the hustle and bustle of the Sunday markets. We tried pandan waffles, a popular streetfood of Cabramatta which we all enjoyed.

It was now time to head home, but our trip could not finish without a stop at the famous Red Lea, where Jack and James purchased their delicious chips. This was a subtle reminder of how cities and places can be shaped by multiple forces.
